Map Ethics! A workshop on identifying and addressing ethical dimensions of artistic research projects.
The goal of the workshop is to stimulate discussion around ethical dimensions of artistic research projects. The text «Map ethics!» is the methodological basis for the workshop. The approach is inspired by Actor-Network-Theory. The participants are encouraged to draw maps of the networks of actors in their research projects, considering the ethics of delimitation, contextualisation, sources, and power.
We ask all participants to do the following preparations:
- Read the text «Map ethics!» ahead of the workshop
- Make maps of the networks of actors in an artistic research project you are involved in, using the four main perspectives proposed in the method.
- Prepare a short presentation of your main findings. We are especially interested in surprising or unexpected discoveries, ethical issues that had not been considered before.
The workshop will be in two parts:
Part 1 (ca 1h) consists of a presentation of KMD’s work on research ethics, including the method «Map ethics!» and the faculty’s contribution to the Erasmus+ project «Advancing Supervision for Artistic Research Doctorates» (https://advancingsupervision.eu). The introduction will be followed by a short Q&A-session.
—10 mins break—
Part 2 (ca 1h10) will start in two smaller groups. The participants present findings from mapping their own projects, using the proposed methods. We discuss the findings in the groups, before we return to a brief discussion on research ethics in a plenum session of about 15 minutes.
